Dr Ahmad is an experienced endoscopist who performs a wide range of endoscopic procedures. These involve the use of an endoscope (a thin flexible tube with a light and lens) that is inserted in the digestive tract to assess the health of the lining of the bowel.

Procedures

Colonoscopy

A flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted through the anus to examine the entire large bowel.

Flexible sigmoidoscopy

This procedure is similar to a colonoscopy but less extensive examining only the left side of the bowel.

Gastroscopy

A flexible tube (gastroscope) is inserted through the mouth to examine the oesophagus (foodpipe) and stomach.

Transnasal Gastroscopy

A thin flexible tube (gastroscope) is inserted through the nose to examine the oesophagus (foodpipe) and stomach.

Interventions

Polypectomy

Growths of the bowel wall called polyps may be removed using various techniques to help prevent bowel cancer.

Endoscopic mucosal resection

This polypectomy technique allows the safe removal of larger polyps.

Biopsies

Small painless specimens ~2mm in size may be taken to help diagnose conditions.
